🧠 Monday, April 6 — Genetics & Addiction

It’s Day 1 of Drug & Alcohol Fact Week (DAFW) at the middle school!

Today, students are learning that genetics can influence risk for addiction — but choices, coping skills, environment, relationships, and trusted adults all play a powerful role in staying healthy.

💬 At home:
Ask, “If some people have a higher risk, what helps kids make healthy choices anyway?”
Even short conversations build awareness and protection.

☕ Tuesday, April 7 — Caffeine

Today’s DAFW focus is caffeine.

Students are learning how caffeine can affect sleep, mood, focus, and energy, especially for growing brains — and how energy drinks often contain more caffeine than expected.

💬 At home:
Ask, “Where do you think caffeine shows up in your day — drinks, snacks, or energy boosters?”

📱 Wednesday, April 8 — Screen Time

Today’s DAFW topic is screen time and well-being.

Students are exploring how screen use can impact sleep, attention, stress, and mood, and why balance and boundaries matter more than total minutes.

💬 At home:
Try asking, “When does screen time help you — and when does it make things harder?”
